Ok so now we know what’s occurring with the 3 evf same lcd same most could have been done with firmware updates to mk2. ISO button great and paddle great.
really not enough for me to upgrade yet?
Kind regards Mike
I'm still going to await the new 150-400 PRO zoom before I decide on my next body (If I need one...) as the new processor seems to suggest the MKiii will be the best option. But time will tell!
I'd also still love the ability to set up the camera - "off camera" so that settings can be set and saved on the computer and downloaded as need be for the job in hand.
Looks like the predicted (By Olympus UK) V4.0 firmware has bitten the dust for the MKii
Anyone noticed in the spec comparison, update to E-M1X firmware to 1.2
this update notes:
NEW
02/12/2020 Firmware update 1.2
Possible to use focus stacking photography with M.Zuikio Digital ED 12-45mm F4 PRO.
When EVF Auto Switch is set, you can select how the viewfinder is displayed when the monitor is open.
Off: Disables the eye sensor. Press the display button to switch between the EVF display and the monitor display.
On1: Eye sensor operates regardless of whether the rear monitor is open or closed. Press the display button to switch between the rear-panel monitor Live View display/Super Control Panel display.
On2: The eye sensor does not operate while the rear-panel monitor is open. Press the display button to switch between the rear-panel monitor Live View display/Super Control Panel display.
The V3.2 firmware update for the MKii has the same changes.
I like it. No real surprises, but who gives us those at the moment? On Dpreview, lots of people complain about the 20MP sensor, but no one seems to complain about similar resolution from the latest CaNikon pro bodies. And there’s only Olympus really trying to compete with them while using a smaller format. Problems? Usual usual... usable ISO6400 would be nice, but I’ve no idea how far from that given this pixel density. It remains a very uneven marker, in this respect, and Sony seems to hold all the cards for the time, being. Also... EVF apparently not competitive (but do people who actually use these cameras care - I know it doesn’t really effect me)?
It has some nice features in an incremental sort of way, nothing earth-shattering, but it's very disappointing that one of the card slots is still UHS-1. That would steer me towards the E-M1X in preference, not that I can afford an upgrade at present

Scuse my ignorance, but can I still use my normal cards or do I have to buy a special one for UHS-1 slot?

I presume its the same as the Mk II. you can use USH-1 cards in either slot, but you have to have a UHS-2 card with the extra set of contacts to get the speed benefits

Was wondering if it is possible on the mk3 or x1 cameras in SAF focus mode a diagonal pattern can be set by swiping the display panel, not corner to corner though but slanted just off vertical.from top to bottom.
I checked out the difference between Mk2 and Mk3 and not enough for me to upgrade. I use the M1X for birding/wildlife and so have features on Mk3 on that so cannot see me going for it.

1mk3, via the joystick the AF target can be moved diagonally.
Thanks for the link. It's a very balanced review IMHO. I didn't realise that Oly would continue to sell the MK2 at £300 pounds less. That kind of sums up the value of the upgrade I guess.
I think this film about the E-M1 III by Chris Eyre-Walker is brilliant. It is very entertaining and makes its points about the qualities of the camera perfectly.
He has said more about the improvements over the Mk.ii than I've read elsewhere. There are apparently quite a few 'under the hood' refinements that might make upgrading more worthwhile than I had previously thought - not that I have immediate plans, as I don't feel I'm stretching the Mk.ii yet.

A wonderfully entertaining read apart from anything else.

I've worked hard to be this grumpy. It hasn't been easy at times but it's worth it.

“Being an outdoor camera of course they don't use it, as their mummies won't let them out yet”
