  • OM-1...The ugly bit.....

    ....IMVHO.

Whilst I'm giving the OM-1 a good kicking I thought I'd add the 'ugly' bit.

Never taken to this huge flat surface since I first saw it....U..G..L..Y.

    It's crying out for something.

    Suggestions please.

Yes I thought that was a bit of a blank space. Get a sticker printed reminding what you set up the custom settings for? Or carve your initials into it with a pen knife…

LOL Carving your initials into it with a pen knife LOL Brilliant!

What you set up each C-mode for is actually a good idea! I sometimes forget!

But I use that blank area for my thumb when handling the camera and I think that's what it has been designed for. So for me it's best left as is.

Probably better to get a professional engraver to do it!

I have some of my C modes set to “hold” so the settings are drifting a bit from the original setup. I probably need to review it. After the v1.2 firmware update my bird flight settings don’t seem to work so well from my experience trying to get some Swallows in flight at WWT Welney the other day, the camera didn’t even try to focus on them in the middle distance. But it would hit on a distant static bird. I might do a complete reset.

It needs the dial moving up and putting there, like the EM1 cameras! Same with the one at the front!! But failing that, I like the idea of carving the owner’s initials into it! Or maybe glue on a spirit level for tripod work?

Paul, you can buy very compact spirit level bubbles which slide into the hot shoe.

But although I don't do landscapes (except the occasional handheld quick snap if I feel inspired by what I see) I do find the horizontal/vertical indicators in both the EVF and LV to do the trick.

Having had a Nikon Z7, this little display was something I never looked at!

I had the top display on my Olympus E30 (similar to E3 & E5) & I didn't look at that either.

I like the idea of putting a small plate with Custom settings reminder.

That could be a useful function for an LCD display

Would be nice but then battery drain. I think Oly may have initially designed it to be a dial space but found it too difficult to operate.

There is a similar shaped blank area on the EM1_X.
Its a good place for your thumb without activating something else.

EXACTLY!! I was beginning to think I was the only photographer to realise and understand this.

            I used to use a E-M1X too.

My very thought also, yet no one had issue with that on the 1X

Can't do that! Dave may want to sell it next week. Then he'll miss it & want to buy another.

Maybe someone should come up with a personalized plate to stick there.

Does it not have a digital spirit level on live-view, like the older ones?
