Ian, Unfortunately the problem is not solved. When logging onto FTU I get this message ="DNS service for this domain has expired with DNS Made Easy".
I don't have an account with these people (DNS Made Easy).
Have now done Safari Reset, but still have the issue.
Am at total loss for now

Have you also cleared the modems cache by powering down & up (after say 10 secs)? It has solved some of these issues for me (but wasn't needed for this problem).

Re: Four Thirds User DNS problem

              Hello Ian.
I'm starting to wonder whether there is a connection to the problem, with / between "four thirds-user.com and "DNS Made Easy". I am not an expert but looking at their site I get the impression they deal with domain name registrations. Is this a cause of the problems?
              I'm clutching at straws here

Re: Four Thirds User DNS problem

Hi Paul, we previously used DNS Made Easy for Four Thirds User's name server service, but as our hosting company has its own name servers we didn't see the point of continuing to pay for a third party service. But the hand over from DNS Made Easy to the hosting company's DNS service was botched up (our fault and our hosting company's fault - they didn't really do what we wanted them to do but they could argue we weren't clear enough). Because we thought we had switched, we allowed our DNS Made Easy account to lapse. That meant that FTU's address was removed from DNS Made Easy's name servers and subsequently from the entire DNS network. The problem was fixed quite quickly (no more than two hours) and after three hours I was able to see the site again here in Hemel Hempstead.

It took a day or two for the global DNS network to be updated with the new details, but I am sure that was completed some time ago. We now have no relationship with DNS Made Easy. If you are still seeing their default page it has to be because of an address caching issue somewhere along the line.

                Ian

PS FTU's domain name is not registered with DNS Made Easy - we only used them for DNS.

Re: Four Thirds User DNS problem

Ian, thanks for your help it is appreciated. I can understand that somewhere (cache) my computer is memorising DNS made easy page. But for life of me I think I have cleaned all caches, reset Safari, reset Superhub. For the time being I will have to accept I cannot log into FTU. Maybe something will happen in the future.
                  Many thanks

                    Hi me again.
BINGO got it all working, can log into FTU. I took note of Reggieb's advice 2 days ago and made an entry in the "hosts" file (MAC)
72.52.140.89 fourthirds-user.com. Did a flush DNS cache, and all works.
                    Thank you

Glad you found it, sorry I didn't originally post Mac instructions.

Strange that you're hitting a DNS server where this change still hasn't propagated. Shouldn't take more than 48 hours for the whole world to see it. Either way, your computer won't even reach out to a DNS server if you've got a hosts file entry for it.

Not a problem, I learned something. I was familiar with Host file in windows, but as I discovered did' nt apply it well in MAC OS.
Thank you for nudging me into taking this route.
