  • A Bend in the River

This 50-200mm image was shot comparitively with the 40-150mm as a test as shown in Foto Fair.
I am gaining confidence in the 50-200 after initially disappointing results ... erm ... possibly due to user error, perhaps?

Great lighting on the trees on the far bank. Their bark seems to glow.

Really like the quality of light in this shot and the bark is a real feature. A good tranquil, calming image.

The 50 - 200 looks like a very capable lens indeed and I'm sure you will extract more and more from it. The overall quality of the image is excellent.

I've worked hard to be this grumpy. It hasn't been easy at times but it's worth it.

Presumably for birding and perhaps with EC14. I've all but given up on birds as too elusive.

Yes Nick, River Red Gums are very handsome trees. They wave their limbs about when it's windy, are content to shade you in the heat of summer and are totally silent. If it were possible to legally marry one then I would seriously consider it.

Thanks Hec, that's just the reassurance I was hoping for on this new lens which at first I had niggling doubts.

Mark I shall try the 50-200 with the EC-14 Maybe I shall get better results !

What I really DO like is the pool of light on the greeny/yellow ? shrub and its reflection in the water !

ps " ... legally marry one then I would seriously consider it. ..." and then it would be Current 3?

That's a lovely peaceful scene with the 50-200 lens doing what it's supposed to do, producing a great, sharp photo. Move over Ken Duncan!

The pool of light on the autumnal trees is what caught my eye at 3:30 PM Wednesday when damn it, I didn't have my camera (unusual).
The calm, clear sunny weather continued so I returned to the scene next day to capture it.
X2 was with me but were I to marry one of those shady creatures it would be a Current 4 ... were it to be consumated.

Ross - Early yesterday I returned to the river to shoot the scene under morning light and a light blanket of fog.
I think this comparison illustrates how much a picture and settings can change overnight.
A highlight of the shoot is that I got the Pintara bogged by the river in a sand-trap.
I rang my daughter and S-I-L who came out in the Land Rover and hooked me out.

And Oh, btw, I did manage to upload this shot to Photobucket after all. ... which for me in the long run may be the solution of least resistance.

                    Now; you are cooking Mark!

The morning light shot is superb - as you probably twigged I wasn't all that taken with the others. Crisp and sharp they may be - and well done for that - and don't be too hard on that lens of yours - but they were too sombre for me.

And as for the red gums "being silent" - wait till a limb breaks and falls on you - the air won't be so silent then methinks!

It seems that you share a preference with Lyn for the morning shot ... I thought the evening shot with its richly saturated colours would be far more popular.

Yes, that is always a threat hanging over you when you camp beneath River Gums - although blessed as I am, I run far less risk.

Taking advantage of today's lingering fog I returned to the Bend in the River to reshoot the scene in a different light.

And very pretty it is too Mark! I love the soft colours.
Water is such a wonderful medium - always changing.
I have been AWOL for 2 weeks on a holiday -some photos of which I will post when I get organised.
