  • Handheld assist error

Back to the rock club last night, and possibly the youngest band I've ever seen - two of them are 13 (bassist and drummer) and the two older ones are 15. I'd been playing around trying to set up back button focus (without reading the manual, foolishly) and accidentally pressed the handheld assist shortcut button I'd set up a while ago (and of course then forgotten about).

I thought it was quite a cool effect and, although I tried later, unfortunately I couldn't repeat it consistently.

They did play some originals, and I took a couple of short videos on my phone - this one probably came out best:

Maybe it was Handheld high res mode? Cool effect, anyhow.

I think you're absolutely right. Having had a proper shufti in the manual, that's the conclusion I came to. One I might play about with in the future, hopefully in better light.

I'm surprised that the camera didn't go into "computer says no" mode. I've had mine refuse to process a HHHS shot with a lot less subject movement than that. A very cool effect though.

Wildwood - I did accidentally press the button a few times last night but this was the only one that worked. I realised what I was doing when it took an age to process and let me shoot again.

Reminds me of a technique that was often used in 1970's music videos (for example, Amii Stewart - Knock on Wood)

Interesting effect. If it's a hand held high resolution shot you could process the standard resolution ORI file it produces to get something "normal looking". I tend to rely on this in case everything is blurred in an odd way!

I think it was handheld assist, hadn't realised I'd assigned that / a button was assigned to it. I haven't quite cracked processing in OM Workspace yet - I took a couple of handheld hires at Anglesey and preferred the result from processing the standard ORF file in Lightroom
