Re: TASMANIA - Wild Dolphins at Play

I can understand your delight at being part of this experience Mark.
In our fishing days, which thankfully didn't last very long, and during which we owned a small boat, we often saw dolphins alongside. Not 40 though, which must have been a wonderful sight.

Lyn - This is a wide view of the Dolphin's activity as we approached.
The sea was literally seething with them and they rushed in from all sides to play catch us if you can!

And not so far from shore either Mark! How great!
I don't know if I ever told you, but as a kid I grew up at Port Elliot on SA's south coast. An idyllic childhood with all spare time spent on the beach and in the water. The bay had a small pod of dolphins who used to delight in swimming quite close to us at times. They are the most gentle of creatures. The Old Wives Tale was that if there were dolphins about there were no sharks, largely dismissed as nonsense now, but we believed it at the time!

I don't remember you mentioning that you grew up at Port Elliot, Lyn. Sounds much like Howrah on the Derwent's eastern shore where my dad had a holiday home where us kids would while away school holidays. My gen also believed that dolphins killed sharks with their bottle noses ... whether that's true or not remains to me an enduring mystery.

Thanks for the link, John. I read the article but unfortunately Aussie "broadband" just isn't "broad" enough to play videos without impossible buffering.

Impressive! Americans just have to do things in a big way all the time!

The video is fairly compressed & our internet isn't great but it downloaded OK here. You must be in a slow spot still Mark & not in one of the newer National Broadband Network areas then. It's not another failed gov't promise, is it?

Mark they are stunning dolphin shots, you must be very pleased with those. It must have been difficult to contain your excitement and keep the camera steady.

Ross, truth to tell, the only time I've ever seen an online video play without buffering was in the USA.

Yes Phil, you've summed up my feelings exactly.
