  • TASMANIA - Wild Dolphins at Play

Cruising around the southern coast of Tasmania yesterday we were suddenly surrounded by a large pod of
wild Bottle-Nosed Dolphins that seemed to delight in leaping and diving around and beneath the boat.
This is a very rare sight indeed and we were so lucky to have been there on such a perfect day.

    Hi Mark,

Wow, that must have been an amazing experience. Beautiful shots, the water looks such a gorgeous blue as well.

Wish I had been there to see them!

Very nice Mark. It's great when the wildlife come but I'll have to content myself with birds & possums etc. & it looks like the E3 has served you well again here.

Re: TASMANIA - Wild Dolphins at Play

Amazingly good shots - we have been on channel crossings where our boats have been accompanied by dolphins but have never been as close or in such beautiful blue waters to get even a half decent picture. These are excellent.

Re: TASMANIA - Wild Dolphins at Play

Fabulous!! I'm jealous. My family went down to our local headland (in Dorset) off which it was reported that dolphins were swimming, but did they see any??? Nah, not a single fin.

Thank you each and all so much for your interest and comments. Normally I prefer to reply individually but as we are cramming as much as we can into our two weeks visit, forum time suffers.

I did of course take dozens of shots among which there were many misses as the dolphins flashed past. Occasionally one or two show-offs would leap clear of the surface but unfortunately I did not get that coveted capture. There were at least forty in the pod and no way of predicting just when or from which quarter a leap would occur - it happens in a flash. In my excitement I dumbly forgot to switch to continuous shooting (in that situation, the hallmark of an untrained amateur!) however there are quite a few more shots in the set which I will process and post later when I get home.

                              cheers to y'all,
