  • HELP! Reporting Lost/Stolen Camera

Ok so this morning as I was packing the car to leave our holiday caravan in North Devon I suddenly realised that I couldn't find my lovely Olympus XZ-1.
Have reported it to caravan site, to local police via "Report My Loss" and also made a entry on the "stolencamerafinder.com" website.

More peeved off about the number of holiday photos on it that I cant now see, as can always purchase a new camera.

Any where else I could report it to cover my bases?

Local camera shops, you may be lucky?

You haven't dropped in the side pockets of the car , by any outside chance?
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

Possibly worth registering and then listing it on Immobilise.com Check a previous photo's exif info for the camera serial number.
      Good Luck for the return.
      Best Regards

Make sure you have a reference number from the police to use for any insurance claim.

The first frame on any card is always one of my name and address, in case of loss.

I'm not sure about including name and address, if stolen the thrives know where to attack next.
Maybe a mobile number, that way an honest person would be able to make contact with you.

If you use facebook, the North Devon Camera club has a page, it may be worth posting details on there

They would know I had owned a camera, like most households, and no longer have that one.

Your house number and postcode will find you.

I would try local second-hand shops, pawn shops, payday loan shops, if you get my drift.

Most are careful about what they buy, and from whom, but there is always a chancer who needs money for his next fix, or bottle of drink.

Thanks also for the warning. It is easy to feel safe in a holiday park, (as we should do), but petty thieves are always looking for easy pickings.

Does the holiday park have any CCTV cameras that might provide some clues?

RE First frame on card to contain helpful recovery information. This requires an extra task to do after reformatting the card. Best to take a postcard containing safe contact information to photograph after each reformatting.

Some models do have copyright information built in to the camera for EXIF data creation, if the thief does not know about the camera he/she will not know about such information held in the camera.

I'm sorry you have lost that camera & the photos, but it brings to mind my situations of losing things; they show up later. Maybe, just maybe your camera might too. But then, that is more likely if it went missing at home rather than on holidays.
