Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

Yes, the E-M5 is supported with all the mFT lenses, but none of the FT ones as yet. I might drop them a line and see whether they plan to in the future. As it stands, processing in DxO I get a sharper result using the mFT12-50 than the 12-60! So I'm still not sure which way to jump. If I was to go the Adobe route I'll need to upgrade Windows as well (I'm using XP and CS4) to use the current versions and I really don't want that hassle ... Should have stuck with my E-620!

Have you had a look at this tutorial on DxOs site
      Particularly section 2

      http://www.dxo.com/intl/photography/tutorials/enhance-sharpness-your-camera-dxo-optics-pro

They did quite a good webinar as well which will be there somewhere

Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

Thanks Bill, that's helpful. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet but will try those tips; meanhwile I've submitted requests for the E-M5 combined with the 12-60 and 50-200 SWD and we'll see what happens. Since they've already characterised those lenses with FT bodies I would have thought it fairly easy to combine them with the E-M5. Their reply reads "We do not yet have precise dates for the modules you asked for. However, we place a high importance on customer requests to plan our next releases and will do our best to have this DxO Correction Module ready as soon as possible. We will keep you posted by e-mail when they become available."

Anyone else like to request the same combos?

It might take a while, as I think they actually mount the lens physically on the camera body and do a series of test photos of standardised targets.

I assume they have a deal going with local importers/camera shops to supply a loan example of each individual bit of kit.

Also as versions progress, they add support for later bodies versions of raw files.

Downloaded the freebie and am impressed with what I have tried so far, B/W film conversion.
I open a file in LR4 and then choose to edit in DXO, after the edit I save (it gives no option to save it to a folder) the file but it does not open in LR4 like what PS does, anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

OK, I quite like the film simulator, particularly as a plug in for Elements..

I bought the magazine (first photomag for years..) and installed optics pro 6.

I convert all my ORFs to DNG and discard the ORF file as I won't be needing it. CS3 won't accept modern Olympus ORFs. Unfortunately DXO won't take DNGs.

I do have some old ORFs that DXO 6 will accept. These are from my E510 and E620 but it won't take the E600 files

I can see it does a good job with noise and sharpening, but I'm not certain it's any better than adobe ACR. It certainly is slow processing an ORF. 50 seconds on my machine..

I shall play some more (converting DNG to TIFF perhaps) and spend some more time in this gift horse's mouth...
Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

I've actually uninstalled pro optics 6, it was the only thing I could think of that was making my whole computer slow and unresponsive, even if the program wasn't open. Sure enough, with the program removed I was back to normal speed. Now I have to decide whether to risk loading it again.

I have had nothing but trouble with this "FREE" software.

Tried it on 3 PCs and it simply will not work correctly...

                    Completely unimpressed

No. I tried quite hard but I've decided to uninstall Optics pro and stick with what I know, ACR, CS3, Elements10 and DNG files.

The film pack plugin is good though..

It turns out the giveaway software itself is not on the magazine cover CD. So if, in light of Graham's problems, you don't wish to pay for the magazine before assessing the software, you can get it for free (at the cost of a 225MB download) here:

                        http://download-center.dxo.com/v6/Wi...Pro6_Setup.exe

And the activation code can be applied for here until the end of November:
                        http://dxo.com/digitalphotographer

The version on offer supports the following 4/3 and m4/3 cameras
                        OLYMPUS E-3, E-5, E-30, E-410, E-420, E-450, E-510, Olympus E-520, Olympus E-620, PEN E-PL1, PEN E-PL2
                        PANASONIC GH-1, GH-2, GF-1, GF-2

Naturally, having established that it does work for you, I expect you will buy the magazine!

                          Piers,

The DxO Optics Pro 6 software is on the cover CD on the magazine issue 140.

The 4/3 and M4/3 cameras that you list appear on a list for installation when you open the software. However these are (I think) cameras added subsequent to the original version of version 6, other earlier cameras are supported, for instance my E-P2 and E-P3.

The software is not able to combine camera bodies with different lenses, it only works on body/lens combinations that they have tested.

So, for example, using my 12-50 M4/3 lens on the E-P3 is not recognised. You can do any of the PP operations but the automatic lens corrections are not made.

My workflow is to import images from the camera using LR4 and converting them to DNG. From there I do PP in LR4 before exporting as a TIFF to CS2 for final tweaking and adding keywords.

So to use the DxO 6, I have to apply lens corrections in LR4 (when not available in DxO6) the export as a TIFF to DxO6 and after tweaking to CS2!

Whilst the PP in DxO 6 is quite good, for me it is just not worth the bother. If it worked with DNG files it would be a good solution, but it does not so I will delete it shortly.

As others have said, the DxO film Pack 3 is good and I will keep that.

There is no DXO software on my cover CD, only links to the DXO website as I posted, although there is on the CD a PDF of supported cameras, from which I quoted.

There is on the CD a ZIP of introductory tutorials - if you want those, it semms to me you have no option but to buy the magazine, sorry!

I forgot to post the link for Mac software:

I downloaded the installation file and all via the links - thanks for providing these!
The Code-Key was sent to my e-mail instantly, so that worked fine as well. However, I had to quit the installation process when I was prompted to install Microsoft .NET4 - which the DxO software needs to run, but I don't have it on my machine. This may be worth knowing to some, before going through the download et al. ...

On the positive side: The quest for .NET4 was made instantly in the process, so high praise to their software development team for checking the requirements early on! I've had other experiences in the past, where this was done- as a nasty surprise - at the very end

                                SPYWARE alert!
I am not sure but, during installation, I think there was an option, wheter you would like to join a "research" to "improve" on new DxO software!? If there was, I had this disabled - of course! But, it seems the log-files are generated nevertheless!
I found out today, that DXO Film Pack 3 generates some massive Log-files at

                                ~\UserName\own_data\DxO FilmPack 3\Log\*.*
(not sure about the path expression at 'own_data', as my system is set up in German)

As there is NO option to disable this function from the programs menue, I wonder how many MB of HDD space get eaten up if you use this software frequently!? But, that is IMO a minor problem, compared to the obvious SPYWARE activities of DxO FP3

I really like the program. It works even on my old machine and delivers something I've always been interested in - film grain and nostalgia. My cure to the problem is now, to include the above Log-folder in my CCleaner task list. As I run the CCleaner many times a day as a habit, there will not be much DxO can spy on me. The deleted folder is generated again though, each time you start DxO FP3 ...!

                                Hope this helps,
