Was it a full copy, not just a 30 day trial? If so, I will look for this issue as well as LCE keep recommending DXO but I couldn't really justify getting it as I have L4 and PSE. Thanks for the heads up!

Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

        Can't get it to work...

It loads up, I drag-n-drop a picture in, then it just freezes up and will do nothing. I've tried it as a stand-alone and as a CS4 plugin, with the same result.

I'm running a Win 7 Pro / 64bit system. Could this be the problem ?

        Any suggestions !

Re: DxO Optics Pro Elite 6 - the cd cover says ''free full software for pc and mac'.

I have not tried it so I cannot comment further I am afraid.

Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

I've been trying the trial version of DxO Optics Pro 8 and I have to say I quite like it. I couldn't get on with Lightroom 5 but this seems easier to use and has a couple of features I've found so far that weren't in LR5 (or I couldn't find them!). Unfortunately it doesn't support the E-300 (or the E-1) but Olympus Viewer can handle the RAW files I still have from those days and it does a much better job than the RAW conversion software I had at the time.

So thanks Internaut for bringing DxO to my attention .
            Regards

What does it do that LR 5 doesn't Richard?

Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

The killer for me was free perspective correction. LR5 has a means of correcting diverging parallels but I couldn't find any way of doing that "freehand" as it were. Photoshop's crop tool allows you to drag the corners of the crop rectangle individually, and so does DxO, but LR5 doesn't. Or if it does, it's well hidden! I copy artworks for local artists to make prints so unless the artwork is absolutely perpendicular to the camera, the result will be distorted. Sometimes canvasses warp as well. So very often a rectangular artwork will be rendered as a trapezoid which needs to be corrected. I don't have the space for a proper copy stand so software correction is important.

Also, I found Lightroom's user interface rather messy and confusing whereas with DxO I've been able to do quite a lot of what I want to do without having to consult the help file or tutorials.

I'm looking for an all-in-one RAW conversion and retouching package, but with LR5 I needed to keep Photoshop as well. My only complaint with DxO so far is that like Olympus Viewer it's s-l-o-w compared to Photoshop.
                Regards

                  Thanks for this Richard.
I use LR 4 and did trail LR5, must say I was impressed with the one click perspective control, but only tried it on a couple of pics. But what works for me may obviously doesn't work for you.
I have used LR since it was RawShooter and am too lazy to learn new stuff. I do use PS very rarely, for colour popping, but LR does most of what I want.
The DXO freebie does do a lovely conversion to mono for me, I will post one or two comparing with LR.

Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

I used Raw Shooter Essentials a few years back when I was using a borrowed E-300 and liked it, although Oly Viewer 3 now does a much better job of RAW conversion .

Graham - I've now installed both Film View and Optics Pro on my Win7 Home 64bit machine and both appear to work fine so I guess it's not a 64bit issue.

Yes.... I paid real, actual money, for VSCO software that works directly with raw, in Aperture. I find the DXO software does a better job, even with JPEG (and even better with TIFF). Looking forward to trying raw, with the Aperture plugin on my Mac!

Managed to buy issue 140 today, so I can try out the DxO Pro 6.

Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

I just tried my E-M5 together with the 12-60 and discovered DxO 8 does not have a module for this combo (or any of the standard 4/3 lenses with the E-M5). Just when I was starting to like it .

I have tried to load this on two PCs and it will not work on either one.

All I got from DxO tech support, was try version 4

                            Completely unimpressed :-(

                              Otto,

I have been able to load the E5 and all of my 4/3 lenses. I have also loaded my M4/3 lenses but sadly it does not have E-P2 or E-P3 bodies. I have loaded E-Pl2 body to see if that will work.

I have been able to load the 12-60 lens, but it does not appear to support the M5 body. If I am right about that, it is rather odd as I have been able to load the 12-50 lens which of course arrived as a kit lens on the M5. If they included the lens why not the body it first came on?

Re: Anyone fancy some free DXO software?

I'm using a paid for DxO Version 8 elite

I've just confirmed with my copy that it does support both the E-M5 and the E-P2 bodies.
Perhaps you need to update your copy. I've also just had notification of the latest update which will support the E-P5

You are correct that they do not support 4/3 lenses on MFT bodies, but as far as I can see, that only affects the Auto optical distortion corrections.

So long as they support the body, you will be able to develop raw files and have most of the other facilities of the program, including manual lens corrections for such as generic Barrel & Pincushion.

The idea of selecting modules, is that first you pick the body, then see what lenses have been tested on it, and download accordingly.
                                Best Regards
