Out for my morning walkies today and a thought struck me , we are always harping on about what can be done to improve our cameras , but there’s one significant improvement that could easily be done and that’s to replace the SD card slots with the far faster XQD cards or the newer CFE cards .. having used the former in my Nikon the read/ write speed of these cards is phenomenal. Here’s hoping

And yet a few years ago the forums were full of posters screaming for Olympus to ditch CF cards and go over to SD cards.Best wishes

SD cards are the least troublesome bit of the kit. No real problems with them, but I rarely use high burst of photography. The video copes withb60 frames / sec, so don't see the need for ultra fast cards, for me anyway....Comment

But it does seem to have been taken up by the opposition . Till you actually try them and see you don’t realise how fast they are I.e I downloaded 95 Raw files from a XQD card today took around 5 seconds ..and it will write to the card fast in camera to I think the D500 is rated to a 100 shot buffer without falter .
It’s just a thought anyway but I’ll bet you see it in OMS cameras within a year or two most likely be the latest generation of CF express cards as there quiet smallComment

With the OM1 I have just changed to Sony tough cards and the burst mode in the camera is superb now - prior to getting these I could easily max out hte buffer with birds in flight. The change for me was a really worthwhile upgrade, transferring to pc is still slow though....but that's probably due to my old card reader.
I don't think the camera needs any faster cards, bearing in mind it's not a high mp sensor, just wish the sd cards were a little cheaper for the higher performing cards.

Unless you’re doing video at high res and high frame rate I don’t think SD cards present any limitations. They are these days available with good read/write speeds that are plenty good enough for stills. XQD and CFE cards are also much more pricey.Comment
