  • HELP! Olympus FL-LM3 diffuser

Can anyone recommend a diffuser for the Olympus FL-LM3 flash unit.

A piece of tissue paper might work.

Cut up a milk carton and some elastic bands skilfully applied should do the job

The handle of a 2 litre mike carton should clip over the front.

Could even get creative & shape it with a heat gun too.

            This is mine.

Film canister, add tissue paper if necessary.

Some very inventive ideas here. Dave the old film canister one is very apt. Definitely my favourite.

I've been using the film canister diffuser like this on pop up flashes for years. I adapted one to fit the fl-lm3 by cutting a couple of strips of plastic from a milk bottle and attaching them to the side of the flash & diffuser using velcro dots. They keep the diffuser nice and secure while on the flash, store neatly inside it when not in use and do not interfere in any way with the tilt/turn ability of the flash.

Many thanks for the replies, some very creative ideas. Sadly all my film canisters are black, I do like that one. I think it is time to break up a milk container and get creative, and earn a Magpie or Blue Peter badge. I just need to wait until it is empty, at least it's not a fairy liquid bottle🤣

35mm film tubs are available for pennies on a certain online auction site. Just make sure you track one down with a lid that goes over the rim of the tub rather than fitting inside it. This makes a considerable difference to the usability of the finished article. Alternatively, I still have at least one spare unused tub here. For a donation to the site I could post it, with all the other bits you’ll need, to you.

If ever I need a flash, and a diffuser, a tissue over the flash works well...

Kleenex used to make 3ply tissues for men and I often used them by taking one layer off so I had effectively three levels of diffusion…
