  • I've got a new lens!

Need to try it out seriously yet but a quick play makes it look fantastic fun!

    Meike 3.5mm f2.8 fisheye.

The first few photos have my toes and fingers in so are of no use... but it looks like it may be fun.

Fully open it has a chromatic circle/purple edge to the whole image, and you can see the inside of the lens barrel!

When it stops raining I will take it out to have some more fun with it!

I need to learn how to remove the rainbow round the edge!

And you can just make out the grip on the edge...

And... the image isn't quite centred...

Took a photo of SWBO (she won't let me share) as close as I could get, was fantastically distorted!

Interesting effect. There seems to be red Chromatic aberration on one side of the photo.
That could be removed in Lightroom.

I wouldn’t look too hard at the photos, they were done badly in a rush as it was raining!

That arrived quickly! I use the circle select tool in Photoshop and then invert the selection and fill the surrounding area with plain grey to get rid of the coloured rings and internal reflections. I'm still waiting to try mine on a night sky.

Hope mine turns up as quickly.
Was your direct from Meike? Any taxes to pay?
              Best Regards

The lens was direct from Meike, cost £115. It seems to have come from sunny Uxbridge.

Perhaps you got the last UK one
Mine seems to be coming from Shendong; it's arrived in the UK and is at a distribution centre down south somewhere.

Just an update, it arrived this morning though I've not tried it out yet, other than to prove it seems to work OK
It came to £119.76 as I had to pay in US$ via Paypal (I'm not sure is there will be a foreign currency transaction charge on my HSBC account yet, but still a decent price.)
No incoming VAT, or any other charges, and arrived via Royal Mail 24 with excellent tracking supplied via Meike's web shop.
Full notification of each stage from collection, and every change of courier, arrival and departure from customs etc.

What a crazy fun lens. Looking forward to seeing what it can do when it stops raining

I had a very brief play with mine earlier; it also seems to be slightly off centre in the same way as yours. The handgrip of the E-M1 Mk1 just shows on the right.
Hopefully these two photos should show what I mean. 1/125 @ F4 (ish) 1250 ISO Sharpened and a bit of added contrast in DxO, and then cropped square. I've no idea if you can circular crop in that, so swapped to PSP6, cropped, and then added a grey border trying to guess at a Flickr background match.

In camera jpg Playing With a Fisheye by Bill Williams, on Flickr Cropped square in DxO and and then circular in PSP6 Playing With a Fisheye by Bill Williams, on Flickr

Not quite as sharp as I'd hoped, but the birdbath was blowing about in the breeze, and the front element was only a few inches away, plus I got my toes in too.
                  Best Regards

I agree that it's not as sharp as the Meike 6.5 mm but that 220 deg FOV is such fun - well worth the price.
