Insurance job? Send them the quote for repair. You'll probably find they'll opt to replace it.

Let's say there is a new camera soon that works extremely well with the 12-60; maybe second hand values will rise

Ian, have you been listening to those rumours again?

Most lenses with mechanical focusing reach infinity before the end-stop - it's quite normal. Unless yours is excessive of course?

I always struggle with the concept of being able to focus "beyond infinity". Is it an oxmoron or a paradox?

I don't think I've ever looked at the distance scale on my SWD lenses, I focus them through the viewfinder like all my manual focus primes.

As for the 12-60, it's one of those lenses I'll keep until it's either no longer repairable or there's no longer a body to use it on.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

I've never noticed it before. It's perhaps 0.5mm or less.

I am rather fond of the lens but it's so big and slow on the E-M1!! If I was still using my 510, I would have definitely repaired it but the more I think about it, the more I wonder that the money would be better invested into the (rumored) 12-40 f2.8.

You can't focus past infinity, but you can focus on infinity then walk forwards 10 ft. You're then focussing on infinity + 10 ft!

                    It's a bit like 'Hilbert's Hotel'!:

Now my head hurts... If you add an infinite number of people to an infinite number of people, you still have an infinite number of people so the hotel can always have more people...

back on the original topic, I'm very much leaning towards it not being worth the repair. I was just thinking, could I send it to Olympus? I hear they they charge a flat fee so may be less than Luton?

If it's uneconomical to repair, I'd be tempted to have a look at it myself if it was mine.

If Schroedinger took his cat to the hotel you'd have an even bigger headache.

They do a flat rate, but it now seems to depend on the lens.
                              Unfortunately, the 12-60mm isn't listed
