My cameras are smarter than me

I've been trying to set my mkiii up similar to the way I have my mkii set up, which has led me down an extensive rabbit warren of videos, blogs, FAQs and forums. I now realized that

1) these cameras are so much more sophisticated than I thought, and I bought them because I wanted that extraordinary tech.
2) there are some REALLY smart (and patient) people out there.
3) I will never use these tools to their full potential.
4) mkiii =/= mkii
5) Best camera purchases I've ever made.

What's you favorite tip/trick/setting/hidden menu/youtubechanel/etc. ?

I'd be interested to know what you are having to set differently on the mk3. I thought they would have been pretty similar in their basic set up.........no?

Similar but the menus on the mkiii have more options, and the buttons are in different places and there are more of them. More functionality + More buttons = more choices

Have you discovered the large format SCP on the Mk3? I quite like it. I think I read somewhere most of us use about 70% of the tech in these cameras, then we go buy the latest model that’s has 30% more features and do the same. Something like that!

I like the custom menu selection. I have the H1 there to start a new folder and the Format Card there.

I find most of the settings similar to the EM1.2. and I like Wrotniak's Customizing explanation very helpful. Other than a few new stuff which he has not touched on, it works pretty much the same.

There is another link for EVF and in it mentioned the Auto Luminance, I couldn't find it and I tried googling, still nothing. And I found it in Wrotniak

I can recommend YouTube videos by Peter Forsgard and Rob Trek for useful tips if you don’t already watch these.

In this one by Peter F he talks about various tips, what I learned is you can do the live view boost combined with the f-stop preview button, so great for preview of a dark scene where you need to get focus right:

He also mentions this one from Rob Trek where he explains the histogram. In particular you can combine spot metering so it moves with the focus point and the green area of the histogram view shows the histogram for the spot metering area for very detailed metering. We are really getting into the nitty gritty now!

I use my cameras either fully manual or fully automatic! Rarely do I use any of the clever things.

I should get out more and try one thing at a time...

“P” is the one I use least, however I was shown a way to use it to balance flash and background lighting

What is this "flash" you speak of? :-) I shoot exclusively in natural light, and 80% "A" mode - the rest manual.

I have had zero interest in flash photography, even though some of the results are absolutely astounding! Just not for me. Interesting that P makes that more ...approachable?
