  • Firmware Update 1.8 for OM-1 (better late than never...)

I just opened Workspace and it announced the above, but without the brackets😁!

It's only for the OM-1 Mark i, the Mark ii is still at 1.3.

That's because the 50-200 lens addition "Sequential shooting SH2 50fps is now supported when using the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 50-200mmF2.8 IS PRO lens." would have been included earlier in the OM-1 II without listing.

    The changelog indicates:
    • Sequential shooting SH2 50fps is now supported when using the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 50-200mmF2.8 IS PRO lens.
    • Improve stability of some functions.

As per my post in the 50-200mm announcement thread......

Does the above 'confirm' that we will see an updated firmware for the OM1 mk2?

As I commented above, the OM-1 FW "Sequential shooting SH2 50fps is now supported when using the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 50-200mmF2.8 IS PRO lens." would have been included earlier in the OM-1 II without listing, since they needed models to test the lens on.

It looks like I'll have to do a firmware update then. My computers all run Linux so OM Workspace is out but I believe I can do the update via my phone.
      Best wishes

FWIW, I have previously used the phone method and it was IIRC straightforward and trouble free

          That's comforting to know. Thanks.

Make sure you have a full battery.

The importance of a full battery is key whether updating via WS or via App

I attempted to install it using Workspace on my M4 iMac but it was unable to connect to the camera. I don't know why, as I have checked and I am using the latest version of Workspace. I will leave it for the time being as it doesn't seem to be a very important update.

          Using the phone app.......

Here’s a helpful YouTube video from David (Dax) Smith illustrating how to do firmware updates via the OI.Share app: https://youtu.be/s55tO-sYZ7Q?si=ZgxmZpTYqXYGBNMq

          Oh, not forgetting.......

I'd suggest the necessary code is already there in the existing OM-1ii firmware.

I surmise that you are correct or else they would have released an update.

Another surmise is that all the testers were using a/their OM-1ii

No need for it as it would have been added earlier.

Seeing as I'll NEVER buy that lens I don't need to update the firmware.

There is the matter of "Improve stability of some functions." that you may want to consider. I take that as meaning that "some undocumented bugs have been addressed / squashed".

Yes, as Larry has added, it is still worth doing the update. They don't tell you everything that goes into the FW updates, just like the OM-1 II, it would have had this update included earlier, unlisted.

Unless OMSystems tells us what those bug updates were I'll NOT Update this one. So it is time to Document NOT Undocument.

That's the choice you can make, but I'll add it.

I was unable to find out why Workspace wouldn't connect to my camera, so I updated the firmware using my phone and the OI.Share app. It was quite a nerve wracking experience for someone which my limited technological expertise but I followed the OMS video link above and it worked well. I just need to check to see if any settings have been changed.

I just updated my OM-1 using Workspace (on a PC) as I always do. Previously I have always selected "Storage" on the list of options on the back of the camera, but Workspace said it couldn't connect, and told me to select "MTB" this time.

I don't remember that from previous updates , all done anyway, not had a chance to test it yet but at least I didn't have to reset the date and time like with previous updates.

At least it told you what to select instead then. I'll find out when I get around to it myself, but thanks for that added bit of info.

As per the instructions, that is normal apparently.

To update the firmware of your camera, follow the instructions below:
The following procedure explains how to update the firmware for your camera using the latest OM Workspace, version 2.4 as of February 2025.

              < step 1 >

Connect the camera to your computer using the bundled USB cable.
If the selection menu for USB connection mode is displayed on the camera monitor, select either MTP or Storage depending on your camera's current firmware version, then press [OK].
