  • Loving my OM-D

Hi all, I'm James, from Herts, North of London. I've been into photography for many years, carrying around Canon SLR's, then DSLR's. I got into M4/3 last year with a birthday gift of the Panasonic Lumix G3, which really took a weight off my shoulders. It's a fine small mid range camera, but it didn't have the power I needed or the low light / high ISO I wanted to stop having to pop the flash up and ruin the ambiance.

I was seriously looking at the soon to be released GH3 from Panasonic, but was offered an amazing deal on a nearly new OM-D body last month. At less than half the price of the GH3 body it was too good to turn down, and I'm glad I didn't. It's my first Olympus camera, but I hope not the last.

Currently it's sporting the kit 12-50mm lens, I love the macro mode and the fact it's weather proof, but the rest of my kit is Panny - 14mm F2.5, 20mm F1.7, 45-200mm and 100-300mm. I've not seen any of the banding issues reported for the 20mm lens, but it can be a little slow to focus when it's dark. Having said that, I never tried to focus it at ISO 3200 or 6400 on the G3 so I don't know how good it could be on that either.

If I'm a good boy Santa might bring me the 45mm F1.8 or the 60mm F2.8 macro, it depends how good I've been

Hope to join in on here as I've been doing on the Lumix Lifestyle site for the past year, anyone on there as well should recognise the nick

    Bye for now, James

Hi and welcome. You obviously have a good idea of the capablities of m4/3, and already a good set of lenses. The 45mm is one of my favourites,
    only surpassed by the 75mm.

Thanks very much Stephen, happy to find a lively Oly community as well for the M4/3 crowd, having lots of fun exploring and playing with my new toy while the kids OD on SpongeBob!

        Hi,

I'm an ex Panasonic and new OM-D user as of four hours ago. Seems a nice camera, if a bit complicated. I'm looking forward to trying it tomorrow when batteries are charged.

I have a load of legacy lenses which I hope will benefit from IBIS - the Panasonic was in-lens stabilisation and no help.

I've had my OMD for a couple of months now and I really am in love with the thing.
I cannot think of any camera which I have enjoyed so much since I got a Nikon F2as
          many ,amy years ago.
The camera will do everything you want it to do photographically speaking.
Enjoy it and lets see some images on here very soon.

I've got to be careful, I might get kicked out by the Panny guys if I spend too much time on here

You'll just have to spend twice as long on your computer - buy lots more Spongebob DVDs for the kids!

              Hi James and welcome.

G'day James. Glad to see you've got the E-M5 as I've really been enjoying mine. The Panasonic lenses sounds like a nice line up too. I've found the Oly 12-50 to be a nice versatile lens but have just recently got the 60mm macro lens & it is a great little lens. Some of my first shots are in these threads. http://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthread.php?t=24092
