Thanks Bill will do. I missed one a few weeks ago but didn't realise there had been more than one. I'll keep an eye out.

                Re: 2016 NEC photo show

Anyone looking for a deal on the new PEN F seems to be out of luck though - it's selling at CameraWorld and ... either LCE or Calumet, don't recall which ... but the price is no better than you can get online at WEX, Park, etc, so not really a "bargain". That said, you could get a free leather strap from the Oly stand if you did buy one, with your initials embossed on it. (the strap, not the camera!)

The sensor cleaners were doing great business at the stand. I got my two Olys done; they even put a new eyecup on the EM-10, which I confess I hadn't even noticed was missing!

And Steve Gosling gave a talk with some nice images shot on his EM-1 & EM-5, which Mark and I attended, and had a natter afterwards. Sorry to miss anyone else who was there - maybe next year.

                  Re: 2016 NEC photo show

Currently enjoying a beer in the pub I'm staying near the NEC: I don't have PP kit so if I've got any good images I'll post them in a couple of days.

                  A few conclusions so far:

My E-M1s look like new, and they replaced a front connector cover I'd lost free and gratis

It was good to chat to Margaret, even if it was mainly about Sonys!

Several really excellent presentations, including a genuinely awesome 40' tour de force from David Yarrow on the Nikon stage: the best monochrome wildlife photos I've ever seen, mostly taken with 35 and 85mm lenses, within feet of polar and grizzly bears, rhinos and lions. The man's a complete nutcase, but the results are humbling.

The 300 handles much better than I'd expected, and even with the 1.4tc it focuses subjectively only a shade slower than the 40-150. It is a notch better in this at 800ish FF equivalent than the 100-400.

I thought the dot sight was wonderful since you got such a great view of what was going on around the frame, but how well it works in real life as measured by actual good shots remains to be seen.

They only had a 'pre production' 100-400 on the Panny stand and the salesman warned me that the zoom was stiff. It got a lot less stiff when I turned off the lock that stops it creeping... (Not very impressive, guys)

I had great fun trying out various Sony, Zeiss and Voigtlander wide zooms and primes for the A7S: very impressive kit, and the Zeiss people are really nice and amazingly helpful (they've got the rare as hens teeth Loxia 21mm at a very keen price, which I've resisted so far).

I also had a really good try out of the Wacom pro tablets, and may succumb at the show price.

Several good talks planned for tomorrow, including Bruce Gilden.
                  Regards,
                  Mark

                      Re: 2016 NEC photo show

I didn't see that one advertised at all on the web site, so didn't know about it.
Quite entertaining lecture by Chris Packham, and some interesting photos of hands in B&W on the Behind the Lens stage.
DMcG's little lecture at 5pm on the Oly stand was quite entertaining, and apologies if I was ignoring anyone I should know from here. I was the ugly bugger, with the greying beard, sat on the back row.
I managed to get away with only buying a roll of mount tape, a coffee, and a rather dried out Cornish pasty.
                      Best Regards

Mark I tried the Panny 100-400 too and got the pre-production stiff zoom excuse. Never thought to unlock it I wonder how long it's been used like that

It felt just like the 100-300 I used to own when I'd done that: reasonably smooth, so I'm pretty sure that was the issue.

We hope to go back to Africa next year so I'll probably get one or the other before we do, but I should be able to take proper reviews and maybe a more prolonged trial in to account before choosing. Before yesterday I expected I'd go for the flexibility of the Panny, but the brilliant feel of the 300, plus using it with the dot sight, changed my view. With a bit of luck the prices may have come down a bit by then.

I doubt I'd give it much/any use before then, but flesh is weak...
