I used to go to the Dive show years ago at the NEC but stopped going when the entrance fee kept going up and the parking fee too. Just looked at the fees now, entrance, Booking fee!๐Ÿคฌ and the exorbitant car parking charges. Shows are a thing of the past for me now. Anyway, hope the group meeting goes well ๐Ÿ˜Š

With prices going up all over the place it's no surprise that Trade shows aren't exempt, I suppose it all depends on how much value one places on attending such events. I basically restrict myself to local in-shop product events where possible and am really only attending this show to meet some members of the Forum and also because I have never been to the Birmingham region.

As to to the exorbitant parking charges, it is stated on the show homepage,

Pre-pay for parking online before the day of your visit and you can save ยฃ5* (T&C's apply). Pre-book with the NEC here. Please note that The Photography & Video Show team does not have any control over the parking fees (we really wish we did!).โ€‹
Not really their fault by the look of things, and I do know that the same is true for visitors to any Trade show anywhere here in Germany.

Yes, I agree the main purpose of the show is to meet others from the forum. But I find the day too long, with the drive up etc, and expensive with an overnight stay in a hotel....?

I definitely don't need any more kit. Having said that, at the West & Wales Photo show last year, I was tempted into replacing my Tough-5 with the 7.... Hopefully a Welsh or West of England might make it to Newport in June, and distract me from an impulsive purchase...

Thanks Gerry, this reminded me to book my parking. The cost was ยฃ13.95 online, only a ยฃ1 increase from 2 years ago.

It's still cheaper cost and time-wise for me to go to the NEC by car from home than train I think.

Hope to see you and others on Saturday!

I do not go there any more Sorry. Enjoy your time there. Instead I'll be going to the South West and Wales exhibition in June as I have done since it first opened.

Are you anywhere near MJ224 Mark? I'm visiting him next week.

A Few Miles away Ian. About less than 1 hour away. Depends on traffic. He is in the Hendy area of LLanelli and I am in Swansea. Let me know what day/Date/Time and I'll see if I am free to meet you both.

I've been keeping an eye on the expected weather in Birmingham for the next week, it doesn't look as though I'll have the same luck as last year in London. It's a good thing that my OM gear is waterproof. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

The plan is to go to South Wales for a day trip on Sunday, 15th March, hoping to see Mark in Hendy!

I'm about 45 miles away, but for health and fuel reasons I would not go there, sorry.

Dave in Wales I was going to go to you. Only a cup of tea or coffee asked for - but no pressure.

Just to recap - I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who can assemble at the OM System stand at 12 noon next Saturday, 14th March). If you would like to PM me, I can share my phone/WhatsApp number with you.

After the show has finishe, I'm planning to find a decent Balti type restaurant for a meal before heading back to London, and you are all welcome to tag along. I will have 2 or 3 spare seats in the car, and my daughter, Lara, will be with me.
