Yes, I think so too. For one, it was a little put-off with it (WiFi) being so limited & an irksome point for those that had bought it, but this should help a little more with the sales for it too. Now that we whingers in the E-M5 camp have been given a little treat & now the E-P5 camp a nice lollipop, we can all sit around the camp-fire & ..... OK, I'll shut up now.

Re: Olympus Pen E-P5 firmware update brings Pen WiFi functionality up to date

I have a question with WiFi with this update on the E-P5, the E-M1 & E-M10. Will the 'zoom' function of the OI.Share app work with the 12-50 lens (in power zoom position)? It should do like the new 14-42 EZ lens coming with the E-M10 as it also does with with the Stylus 1 too.

So, can someone please try the 12-50 lens on the updated E-P5 or E-M1 with the latest OI.Share app & see if the zoom can be remotely controlled. The zoom function is operated from a pop-out tab on the left of the app screen (when in camera remote live control), with the latest app (for Android it is 2.1.1).

Thanks Ian. I just think it is another good marketing feature that seems to be overlooked in most discussions or reviews etc..

Then that means I can wake up in the morning & read all about it over breakfast (or morning tea).

Ian, have you had a chance to try the 12-50 lens for remote zoom yet? I understand if you've been too busy to do so, 'cause I've not got through the work I was supposed to do today myself.

Hi - yes just updated an E-P5, fitted the 12-50 and bad news I don't seen any remote zoom controls. So this feature may be for the Stylus 1 only.

I will try to get confirmation from Olympus.

Thanks Ian. It is with the latest OI.Share that it has a pop-out tab from the left side (middle) & it is supposed to work with the new 14-42 EZ lens on the E-M10 & should on the E-M1, plus it should now also work on the E-P5. This is why I wondered if the 12-50 being an EZ lens & when set to EZ position, might also work. I guess one way to find out will be getting it to work with the 14-42 EZ lens first (on the E-P5, E-M1 or E-M10) & then trying the 12-50 EZ lens (with latest firmware to be sure).

OK, was using an iPhone and the version of OIShare on that is very old (manually installed) so I will install the current version and get back to you.

Sadly I still don't see any zoom control in OIShare (this time version 2.2 using Android) connected to the E-P5 and a 12-50. I think the zoom function is specifically for the Stylus 1 bridge camera. But am seeking clarification.

Also tried on an E-M1 with 12-50 - all latest firmware. Still no luck.

Thanks for trying, but it seems that lens won't do it, unless Olympus decide to change that in its firmware. If or when you get your hands on the 14-42 EZ lens, that should be controllable from the OI.Share on the above cameras, according to descriptions for the E-M10 & that lens. I'll add a link to that info when I get to my laptop (I'm having a lazy start in bed using my Android tablet at the moment). The new 14-42 EZ lens sounds like the zoom is controlled the same way as the 12-50 lens & not with a continually rotating ring.

Anyhow, thanks for trying with this lens Ian. If the rumours are correct, we might be pleasantly surprised with more firmware updates.

EDIT: I can only find a reviewer stating something on zoom control, "O.I Share has been updated to include the ability to control zoom lenses from the smart device and change the GUI to provide a much larger button for triggering the camera's shutter. Live view isn't available in this interface mode." as found here, so it would be good to get confirmation from Olympus on this.

A glimmer of hope - I am told that new software is on its way to enable remote zooming. Not yet sure if this is firmware or an new version of the app. I will keep you updated!

Thanks Ian. I'm not sure how many of us actually use or would use the remote WiFi control but if so, then the zooming feature is a useful addition. I've only played with WiFi & also its zooming feature in the Stylus 1 & haven't any great use for it yet, but it's still nice to have a new feature included that most other manufacturers are including. But that's just the way with all these features crammed into cameras where a lot of us rarely use a number of them, however, purchasers demand these features because Joe Bloggs has it on his.

Anyhow, it sounds promising with possible firmware or app update to accommodate this. I would imagine it would be ready for when the E-M 10 hits the market & hopefully all others will benefit too (with the 12-50 lens as well, hopefully).
