  • Loch Ba- Rannoch Moor

Thanks to everyone who commented on the images posted in the Rannoch Moor and More thread over in Foto Fair.
I think Steve's Loch Ba shots were much better than mine and this is partly down to composition. I struggled to pick a simple composition from the boulder strewn foreground with reeds, mist and layered background so I have had a fiddle with a couple of crops and thought I would open them up for feedback here.
Cropping isn't the long-term solution I know (unless I get a D800) and I realise I should try harder to get it right 'in camera'; maybe it was the hour of the day or age(!), but I have loads of shots where moving a couple of feet would have made quite a difference e.g. the sun's reflection wouldn't have been partially obscured by a rock.
Any advice on how to think more clearly while behind the camera would be gratefully appreciated, but in the meantime what do you think of these crops?

    2.

    Thanks in anticipation
    Iain

Blimey! They are a bit big. I uploaded from work so will look to put realistically sized images on from home later - sorry!

They're both superb images. I would try cropping the second (panoramic) one even higher so that the foreground rock is excluded. The reeds alone suffice as foreground interest, in my opinion. But I would be proud to own either.

Thanks Stephen, I have tried a 2x1 crop here with some off the left hand side too:

I think the 2x1 crop. With #2 from the first post I was continuously looking to crop the reflection from the big boulder to give a feeling of being there in the water standing on it.
