Nice Dave but I think your horizon needs a bit of adjustment.Also I feel it could be a bit sharper at a lower F stop,at 12 mm the Dof is very deep even at lower apature.

Nice composition though.

Sorry Dave,but for me personally much too much foreground. If you take away the foreground and leave it as a letter box type shot,it just appears then to be too distant a shot to be anything special.

I like it but agree with Andy that it feels like the horizon is sloping a little.

I don't know how close the nearest detail is in the foreground but the hyperfocal distance for 12mm on Four Thirds is 2 feet at f/16, so maybe David is spot on? Of course some sharpness is sacrificed for the depth of field, but it's all relative in the end.

Thanks for your comments guys. I did wonder about the horizon, on the left it looks like it is sloping but horizontal in the distance.
Not sure what you mean Andy re the f stop, I couldn't make it much smaller than f16.

Sorry not being clear,lower number,larger apature.Just so diffrection softening does not affect your picture.

I thought that at first, but there is so much near to the lens that a brighter aperture may not have kept the distance sharp enough, so it is a compromise, but probably an OK one.

It's the foreground that makes it for me so I think the balance is about right. The tiny fishing boat in the distance either needs to be sharper or cloned out as the eye is led to it but once there it is lacking in detail. The very dark rocks to the right are an essential part of the image for me but could do with a bit of shadow lightening to bring out a little detail, otherwise they tend to dominate the horizon.

A stunning shot nevertheless, where on Skye is it?

I will do as you suggest David. Unfortunately I cannot tell you where it is, we did a lot of driving around and the location of this shot got missed. I will enquire of one of the others in our group, he knows the Island better than I.

Yes Dave, I think that has done the trick for me, with a little more detail in the rocks. It now shows a little blueness in those shadows so a final tweak involving a slight blue reduction will make it perfect. The problem is we all see colours differently as we get older and although we compensate it still sometimes leaves us with a different colour perception, so please excuse me if I'm seeing blue where others don't.

Just removing the boat brought out a couple of nice diagonals from the seaweed to the lone rock to the prominent rocks just below the horizon. What a huge result from a tiny change!
