After Katmai and Kodiak, we started west along the Aleutian Islands. The first of these stops was Aniakchak Bay. Thus was another bonus National Park for us. Aniakchak is one of the most remote and least visited parks in the US. No roads, no infrastructure. The only way in is by boat or bush plane. We did zodiac cruising in Aniakchak Bay. The weather was cold and rainy, but just amazing to be here.
Aniakchak Bay:

The rock formation on the far right had a bald eagle nest on it

The two juvenile bald eagles in the nest. Usually eagles build giant nests in snags or tall trees. No trees out here....

We spotted lots of birds (Probably black-legged kittiwakes here)

as well as this seal:

After Aniakchak, a ghost town in the arctic complete with cows! The visit was to Unga Village, an abandoned town in the Aleutian Islands. The first post office was established in 1888, and in 1890 Apollo Mining Co. was established. In 1969, the last family left Unga. We had a few hours to stroll through the ruins and the wildflowers and admire the scenery and some nice zodiac cruising by the cliffs.
You can just see the ruins as we approach Unga Island:

Bird cliffs:

And both kinds of puffins (tufted and horned)
