Willow Emerald damselfly

This Chalcolestes viridis (thank you Google )specimen very obligingly landed and rested for a few minutes on a spent gladioli flower stalk, while I was gardening this afternoon. I was able to go inside, get the camera and make some perfunctory settings changes, and it stayed just a little longer for these two shots:

Nice shot! Beautiful damselfly. I notice how it keeps its wings spread compared to most other damselflies that keep them closed when perching. It is one of the Spreadwing family.

Not so surprising then when you read that the alternate English name for Willow Emerald is Western Willow Spreadwing!

I was thinking about that too. It was only when I did the Google search that I realised it wasn't a small dragonfly.

Yes, a very attractive species. Two years ago this month, I shot images of the first record for this species at a local nature reserve. It is spreading across the UK.
