My latest Barn Owl photo this evening on a local Common alongside the River Hull, Yorkshire, UK.
I'm desperate to get a decent photo with prey in its claws, but I'm quite happy with this image. It came quite close, c50m.
The main background is black because it was a long row of hedges and the light was dropping.
I'd waited and waited and given up and was trudging my way back when the blighter did decide to appear! Such is nature photography.
Only had 30 mins with this Barney, but it was worth it
Lest anyone be in doubt, this 150-600mm lens is a mightily capable beast and well worth the price compared to the 100-400. Forget the mega expensive Big White Lens - most of us mortals can't justify it. The 300mm may be sharper BUT it's not got the flexibility of a zoom.
8,000 ISO (then processed via DX0 PureRaw4) 1/3000th sec full bore at 600mm f6.3
