  • An Eastern Whipbird & Its Prize.

One of our local Eastern Whipbirds found a wonderful prize (a case moth) after the rain this morning & it wasn't going to give up at all despite the challenge of getting into it. It kept persisting & eventually took it to another spot (less open) to continue to try to unwrap its prize.
All taken with Olympus E-M1 Mk II & MC20 + 40-150 f2.8 lens, with most of the images being heavily cropped (except the last).

Thanks Mark. I don't often see a bird playing with such a prize for so long as I did with this bird, also hard to get a photo of them because they're mostly in the thick bushes.

Interesting to read about the Case Moth. I looked them up, and we do have some sort of case moth here in UK. They are small and eat carpets. Suppose someone has too.....:-)

Yes, it interesting. I know they are hard to get into as I've done it in my younger years & basically a pair of scissors are necessary to open it up. I hadn't realised the female stays in it all her life though, nor the male's mature outcome.
Working...
