Did you see the 1959 movie, "On the Beach", starring Gregory Peck & Ava Gardener? The theme was about fallout from atomic radiation after a nuclear war that had killed all but a few survivors. The location was Sydney, Australia where the city was eerily deserted.
When I arrived here on Monday by train, that same sense of eeriness struck me as I towed my suitcase from Central Station to nearby Great Southern Hotel. The contrast to previous visits was stark. No busy streets thronging with people, just the odd homeless beggar and empty trams gliding silently by.
The view overlooking George Street from my forensically clean 5th floor apartment is nonetheless spectacular and perfect for self isolated, socially distanced people photography and a magical platform for practicing live composite mode.
I've three days left of my visit and lots more pictures to take but having left my dodgy laptop at home it is more than my feeble old brain can handle to share a few photos from camera》to phone》to forum by Wi-Fi that I never did understand ! So they must wait until I get back to my desk at the end of the week.
Cheers, Mark
