  • Close encounter with a Currawong.

This Currawong decided it would take a drink from our tiny little pond (full of Japanese Maple leaves at the moment) & was very close when I stepped out the front door (with my camera) & so I carefully tried to point the camera at it but in its caution it flew up into the Japanese Maple branches above to start with so I managed to get this peaking through the Hawaiian Wedding vine (Stephanotis floribunda) hanging down over our entrance with the bird just 3m away.

Then it decided I wasn't too much of a threat so flew back to the stone ramp (beside the tiny pond 2 metres away).

And now on a rock at the water's edge (2m away) with water dripping off the beak.

Gosh, you've got Stephanotis growing outside! I've never had much luck with them inside.

Yes, & have had it there many years now. I've never cut it at any point & only recently learned the flowers come on the same point each year, so it is just as well. When I find the last photos I took of them in flower I will add it here (& Flickr). We had to grow it being something special as it was what my wife had in her wedding bouquet (several decades ago).

I've posted a photo of a small cluster of flowers in March (early Autumn & still quite warm to hot) here in this thread. https://e-group.uk.net/forum/showthr...418#post486418

This is the view from our front door through which I took took the photos of this Currawong.
