Thanks. Yes, they were very easily spooked. There were a couple of dead branches casting a shadow across the sign so I went to move them & they snapped sending a number of the bats into the air.

We used to pick them up on radar as they crossed the Malacca Strait.

I'm not surprised when they take off at dusk. They can be quite numerous as they do.
