  • The Riverboat Postman

This thread is about the last riverboat postal service in the world.
The mail boat delivers (under contract to Australia Post) to isolated
properties on the Hawksbury River, NSW, an hour by train from Sydney.
These must be some of the most exclusive real estate properties in the world
as they are accessible only from the river.

Another cruise boat passes by, but, there's only one Riverboat Postman cruise carrying a better class of tourist as you will see below!

The cruise boat passes by several enclaves such as this, as well as many exclusive and reclusive houses.

An amazing natural feature along the river are the sandstone formations that one could almost believe to have been sculptured by human hands.

Heading up river to pass beneath the Hawkesbury River railway viaduct. Lots of jellyfish get 'vitamised' by the props

Morning tea and lunch included in the $55 three hour cruise

Another one for the "Bucket List", thanks to Mark. ;-)

Lovely photos by the way. You really manage to get that XZ-2 to sing.

        Barrie - thanks.

Larry - thanks, the XZ-2 has the same processor as the OMD-M5.

Mark another lovely set of images and an interesting story too. I wonder if those houses by the river have any flooding issues? I got the wife a Stylus 1 recently which I thought was also a similar processor to the XZ-2. She's been getting some nice shots with it so maybe that's my excuse in the future

                Re: The Riverboat Postman

Thanks Andrew. It's about time you did another major trip, Oz is lovely at this time of year, mate!

Thanks once again, Phill for dropping in. I cant say whether those houses do or do not have flooding issues. In its lower reaches The Hawkesbury is a big wide salt water tidal river, so I doubt it.

It's a cunning ploy to buy the wife a present that you can use yourself - if you "borrow" it often and for long enough she will eventually forget its hers !

                Good shooting with the Stylus-1

Nice images from the Hawkesbury, but that sandstone weathering is certainly something special.

My Stylus 1 (with my daughter) & my wife's Stylus 1s are getting a good workout as they travel down through the centre of Australia (I'm at home looking after the dogs ).

If only cut and paste was that useful what a great idea.
I have to say the Stylus 1 is a great little camera, can't understand why Olympus dropped the development.

Next time you're in the Sydney you might consider taking a trip out to Hawkesbury and do the cruise. Well worth it.

The reason the Stylus and XZ's were dropped might have been because they was just too good. The OMD series was more profitable.
