  • Some rocks, a broken wagon and wine

On Saturday 30 Sept 2017, the owner (and winemaker) of my favourite vineyard on Queensland's Granite Belt decided to throw a Spring Garden Party at the vineyard. The Granite Belt is one of the very few places in Queensland suitable (climate and soil) for the growing of wine grapes.

I travelled up there with some family and friends for the (long) weekend.

While sitting back enjoying some of local produce, the topic of conversation turned to the rocks beyond the fence at the bottom of the paddock. - It's amazing what wine can do to the relevance of conversation.

I wandered down for a closer look:

The remains of an old wagon next to the rock:

A closer view of the old wagon wheel. I can't make up my mind which one I prefer.

The ROCK that sharted the conversation:

    Putting it all into context:

And of course what really started it all:

Hehe! I am too old to begin building a new career. I took that photo at the encouragement of an old friend (on the far right of the photo below), who suggested that I send it to Mark Ravenscroft (in the pink shirt) and see whether he wanted to use it. I have done so.

Seriously though, I enjoy Mark's wines, especially the pinotage, and we all had a great time on Saturday.

Fortunately the rain held off until Saturday night, although rain was sorely needed. - See below:

The town of Stanthorpe, the business centre of the Granite Belt, on an absolutely miserable Sunday morning. But they really needed the rain!

If that's miserable weather, I wouldn't mind some of it.... We do a really good line in miserable weather here!

The Rocks ...The Rocks... You can't just leave us dangling about the rocks that the conversation turned to.
Is there a story about them or did you miss it all by going to take those great photos

That's because you can't see that the wind was blowing and driving the rain. That photo was taken during a break in the rain, but the wind was still blowing.

I am sitting at Brisbane International Airport right now, waiting for my flight to Auckland, New Zealand. I am going over there to attend a wedding in Cambridge in the Waikato. I have been warned to bring my winter woolies as New Zealand doesn't seem to have realised that spring is here.

As I said earlier, the Granite Belt is one of the few places in Queensland suited to the growing of wine grapes. We were just wondering about why solitary rocks were there. - Lonely rock?

What a fabulous set you have there, Larry. You sure know how to party up there in Stanthorpe! Love the glass and bottle shot, especially.

Nice rock photos (as well as the others). On our way to Bathurst to pick up our daughter's pup (earlier this year) there was also a nice interesting rock outcrop I had to get some photos of it too. I'll have to dig them out again.
