  • Fire in the Sky

While there were bushfires, such as the one east of Dunedoo, NSW, the setting sun put on its own display as well. These are progressive photos & all showing naturally the colours seen (except the last at 0.7 Exposure Compensation, which might be truer to the light intensity at the time).

With a bit of Phototoshopping you could have some Valkyries riding through the sky!

PS: I'm not a fan of Wagner - I find him a bit too 'overblown'. I'm reminded of a quote (by a German) that Germans like their culture 'big and earnest'!

We all came out to Montreux
                  On the Lake Geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
                  We didn't have much time
                  Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Were at the best place around
But some stupid with a flare gun
Burned the place to the ground

They burned down the gambling house
It died with an awful sound

I just found out Funky Claude (Nobs) died four years ago after a sking accident. He was pulling members of the audience out of a basement window after they'd got trapped down there trying to escape the fire.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. Much appreciated.

BTW, while there were fires around & houses lost (north west from the Blue Mountains), we have had rain in the Blue Mountains which meant we were at a lower risk on the extremely hot days than the country areas further west of the mountain range, but all the same I'm very grateful no fire started around the Mountains at all.
Unfortunately, more houses have now been lost near Canberra today.
