  • Green Woodpecker

I always find Green Woodpeckers to be extremely wary birds, although I know some lucky people have them feeding in their gardens. I followed this one about on Lowestoft North Denes for quite a while but it never let me get too close.

    E-M1, 50-200 SWD and EC-14.

Excellent. Perhaps a closer crop around the bird would be nicer? Just an opinion.

Many thanks for the kind comments and 'likes'. It would have been nice to crop closer to the bird but, unfortunately, it is already a large crop. I also wanted to keep some of the surrounding vegetation in the shot to show how well hidden it was.

          Re: Green Woodpecker

          Hi Ron

I do get them anting in the field behind my garden and on the grass verge outside the front of the house. I don't think they have braved my garden yet, they leave that to the pheasants! But they are still deeply suspicious and not at all grateful for the free food.

But they are such a lovely colour, your shot emphasises the green so nicely. Wonderful thing sunshine

With my new camera I am taking in flight shots of them at the reserve. So, I have a growing collection of disappearing tail feathers! But all in focus...

Hope you find a few more soon.

          regards

Always good to see these. We have a colony at our local nature reserve but usually they can be seen but not heard

so well done for getting this one

We had one visit the garden for years, but not now unfortunately. Good to see this one.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

Interesting Depth of Field. Were you at the longer end of the zoom? What aperture did you need?

According to the exif data: 283mm (maximum zoom), f/4.9 (maximum aperture), 1/800 sec, ISO 200.

That's a good capture and better than the single shot I've managed. The green woodpeckers at work are just a blur of feathers whenever I see them!
