      I can't recall ever seeing this unusual flower Terry - it reminds me somewhat of Poinsettia.

            This is often called "The Christmas Cactus" but always seems to flower in November.
            Mine are just starting to flower too.

              Took this with my 35mm macro - the flowers are only about 2-3cms across.

              This is only one of the flowers - there are flowers all over the cactus which is in a pot.

                  They flower at various times during the shorter days, one group being Easter Cactus.

                  Avoid using hard water on them.

                    Harold - I only heard recently that the Americans have a "Thanksgiving Cactus" too. Fascinating species and you can tell their differences by the smooth or slightly spiked leaves.
                    Never change their aspect once they start to flower as this can cause the flowers to drop.
