Leiobunum rotundum Female

In many hours at decoy Heath Nature Reserve in warm dry weather, this is the only individual harvestman I have seem. It was moving around on stinging nettles.

The stereos are crosseye.

I saw my first White Admiral of the year last week. It had managed to find some of the few bramble flowers which were still left to provide nectar.

E-M1 II, 300mm f4 and MC-14.

Composition isn't very good as it was at the top of the window over the cooker which was in use...

Blue Hawker Aeshna cyanea Laying Eggs

Also known as the Southern Hawker, this green-marked female was very persistent in alighting on the rotting tree and feeling around for places to insert her ovipositor and was clearly laying eggs. If I made a slight move and disturbed her she was back within seconds. This session lasted several minutes.

This was beside Pond 1 at Decoy Heath Nature Reserve on 25 July.

Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Panasonic 100 - 400mm Leica DG Vario-Elmar at 400mm 213mm to 280mm at f11, hand held.

Blue Hawker Laying Eggs: Mostly Stereo

The last two images are of the dead tree. I assume that the water level reaches the tree in autumn and winter, allowing the eggs to hatch.

The stereos are crosseye.

Something changed in the lighting between the two shots in the third pair but I have modified it and the stereo will blend them.

I'm not sure how much the angles of the trees were natural and how much was due to to the horizontal angle of the lens. I was mainly interested in the dead tree, not in its setting.

My first visit to a small local reserve, Taddington Mere; essentaill a small pond surrounded by vegetation and managed by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust.
Common Hawker, whose winds seem to have failed to unfurl properly after hatching.

Cinnabar Moth caterpillars of various instars on Ragwort in late July

The stereo is crosseye. Getting stereo pairs of these is difficult as, at any one time either:

one is on the move or

two are waving their front ends around each other in some kind of space dispute.
