I have more than a passing interest in smithing so I was very happy to find a blacksmith shop in Old Havana. They were happy to see me too as I came bearing gifts of diamond sharpening steels. They seemed to have very nice new equipment, including a $10,000 power hammer from Spain. I can only assume that someone (maybe an escaped relative) had set them up in business and had all the gear shipped in as it was very, very unusual to see such good kit. Unfortunately they did not seem know what to do with it in terms of traditional forging but the welder and grinder were well used! They were in the process of "fabricating" an "iron bed". I did try my best to give them some pointers in my less than comprehensible Spanish.

Certainly a lot of empty space in that workshop.
