Uluru

Sunset at Uluru shows the different moods of light as sun sets.







The clouds were on the horizon behind me and the sun was setting so it looked like the show was over, so I took off the polariser and grads and collapsed the tripod and was packing up when there was general "oooh" and the last rays hit the rock. So the last one is handheld with some pp unlike the first three which all goes to prove I don't have the patience to be a landscape photographer!

Very nice Jim. Would the last have benefited from not having the filters? The first three are nice but the last is the 'beauty' for me.

The last one stands out from the others. Lovely colours in the sky and the intense colours of the rock.

I know what you mean about being a landscape photographer. No 4 for me, lovely light. Wonder how it would work in B/W?

Agree but feel that the close to camera tree takes away from how BIG the rock is.

Great series leading to the final captivating classic sunset shot of the Rock. Did you then get up at the crack of dawn next morning to witness the sunrise? We did - and that was followed by the Sounds of Silence dinner (if you can call the playing of the didgeridoo silent), so we left the area completely exhausted but it was a wonderful experience, especially viewing the night sky with no light pollution and viewing constellations, such as the Southern Cross, which are not visible to us here in the UK.

In the days of film you had a good chance of missing the last best shot when the rock lights up as you had used all your film up taking the progression of the changing light.

I'm not sure there is any way of giving perspective other than landing a jumbo on it, anything else would just not be seen at the distance needed to include the whole rock.
Attempted a Mono conversion of a shot at Kata Tjuta in similar but not so spectacular light. Not sure it works

Worth the wait that last shot is great.

Patience is a virtu that is not always rewarded. There are times I am at a scene for an hour after sunset shooting away as the light and clouds or sea change minute by minute.
