  • Tried another Fall leave Abstract

I was surprised what one-day does to leaf color. I went back out to get some more leaves and the trees that I used the day before had turned completely brown. I found another type of tree with a nice red color pattern, and a bush with bright yellow leaves. The picture you see is on the light box again, and I put the yellow leaves behind the red one to have a background that wasn't yellow from the gel on the light box. I cut the yellow leaves slightly larger than the space, so it went under the red leaf a little. This produced a nice shadow effect that gives it a 3-D look. This ended up being frustrating, keeping six leaves lined up correctly. I would get all but one of the leaves perfect, and then moving this one into place would move something else and the yellow gel would show though.
One nice thing by putting the leaves on the gel was that I could move the leaves into different positions and not disturb them.

    Dear Danny,

It is nice to see that you have used your imagination for this image, the composition and detail are very interesting indeed. Just one thought from my brain cell, is it possible to slightly hold back the bright yellow a tad? I just wondered because there looks like that is some fine detail in the leaf that does not quite come across.

    Very interesting image, well done.

I toned down the yellow and it did help in the brightnes and look, but it didn't bring out much more detail. The leaf on the far left and right was from a different bush and did not have that many viens as the other ones. Thanks for the idea.

Lovely patterns and colours. This type of shot is deceptively difficult to arrange effectively, as I have recently discovered myself. You've done a good job, Danny!

        Cheers,
        John
