  • Moon Flight

Pink-footed Geese flying across the moon at dusk at Titchwell, Norfolk. It was a wonderful sight (and sound) but a few clouds illuminated by moonlight would have made it even better.

    E-M1 and 75-300 II.

    Ron,
#2 is great - with the goose silhouetted against the moon.
Now all you have to do is to train them to fly in better formation

      Re: Moon Flight

Ron, you can argue that a few clouds could have made things even better, but these shots are fantastic as they are, particularly No 2. Quite apart from getting a great photograph, what a magnificent experience this must have been.

Both nice shots, even without artistic clouds. I prefer the first - somehow for me it conveys the scale better and is more complete.

Many thanks for your comments. Pink-footed Geese don't seem to fly in strict formations like some other geese, such as Greylags but I love seeing the 'strings' of them changing shape as they drift across the sky in the winter. The sound they make is unforgettable.

Great stuff. Seen a few skeins recently but never managed a photo.
The moon is a real bonus.

                  Re: Moon Flight

Nice but slightly annoying for me. I spent several autumns trying for shots like these when I lived in Saskatchewan and the huge flocks of Sandhill Cranes and Snow Geese were heading south.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.
