  • One of Two Thousand

Another set from my recent safari to Kenya.

This lady is a Grevy's zebra. We did not understand initially why our guide was so excited when we found her and then he explained that she is one of only two thousand left and is consequently a rare find indeed.

So here she is on her own which is normal and perhaps helps explain why there are only two thousand

Moving on with company in the background

And now with a herd of Oryx - we noticed a real tendency for herbivors of all sorts to gather together. Partly as they are no threat to each other and partly it helps in the constant watch for carnivors. More on carnivors in another set at some point.

And now as she is black and white anyway..........................

    cheers

I've worked hard to be this grumpy. It hasn't been easy at times but it's worth it.

Stunning Zebra, you must be so pleased to have even seen her, let alone get such superlative images ?
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

The b/w version is particularly stunning. It's always amazing to see such a sight, but sometimes think it's even more amazing to be able to capture a photograph, because then you can go back and look at again and again and again.

You just go on learning on this forum Hec.
I turned to Wikepedia to find out more about your fascinating zebra.
You must have had a fabulous trip and these photos are great.

Wow, not only is it a rare species but that one is a fine specimen too. Zebras were just made for B&W.

                    Re: One of Two Thousand

Thanks for all the generous comments. Glad the mono is popular as B&W versions of most of my images are usually my personal favourites. This trip I did find myself thinking B&W a lot of the time.

The zebra was substantially bigger than other species and tends to be a bit of a loner even though, as you can see, they do mix with other herbivors.

                    cheers

What fabulous shots there, Hec. I am particularly taken by the zebra set in front of a herd of Oryx.

PS: Being on hols I am not as closely in touch as when I'm at home, so missed out on your opening this thread.

Some really fabulous shots and the Mono conversion is stunning. With such great subject a bet you didn't want to come home.
