  • Surprise in South Australia

Just returned from a long trip to Hong Kong and Australia. First long trip using my OMD rather than the usual weapons of E620 or E5 plus lenses. Have to say it was a liberating experience to have only the OMD and a couple of m4/3 lenses to cart around during the day. Needless to say camera peformance was exemplary.
Part of my tour was to the Barossa Valley wine region, aiming for the town of Tanunda. By coincidence I arrived on the day of the annual classic American car and Hot Rod gathering - unbelievably some 500 cars and thousands of people take over the small town. These cars have an incredible support in South Australia with many currently being imported from the States due to the strength of the Australian dollar.
Anyway here a few shots of these well prepared cars taken with the dramatic tone filter - which I happen to really like with these cars' colours and the lighting:

    A very nice series Martin.

I'm not normaly a fan of the dramatic tone filter but it works well with these subjects.

    Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful shots of wonderful cars, I'm impressed. Maybe it's time to find out if my E-M5 has one of those dramatic thingies hidden away somewhere!

That certainly turns images into 1950's mag adds ( I realise not everyone on the forum will have seen these ), most impressive indeed.
You were so lucky to be there at the right time.

Great use of the dramatic tone filter, and perhaps a perfect example of why Oly included filters as an option; not everyone is a post-production expert and the option (Raw+Jpeg) to give shots like this a whirl is a bonus.

I'll also be looking for uses of the filters. I think if one knows what they do and how to use them best, it could save a lot of time. These are great examples!

Good old South Australia! We are not called "The Festival State" for nothing!
There is always something going on. We are about to enter "Mad March" when Adelaide really comes alive with all sorts of festivals and events.
I know Tanunda well - we lived there for several years during my husband's banking career - in fact, one of our daughters was born there.

The photos are great - I think the filter has done a fantastic job.

Thanks for comments. I think Oly have set up the dramatic tone filter just right - I have achieved similar effects in the past with a Topaz plug in, but with a bit of fiddling - the filter works straight off.

Very impressive, the 'Tone' filter certainly has it's place.

Very nice photos and subjects. I like the style in either case. To bad accordingly dressed chicks get hadcuffed ...
Cant produce a dramatic tone with my gear, but see it's benefits with these subjects. This gives rise to the idea to experiment with some software filters I do have and try to apply them on warbird shots. Never thought of it - so thanks!

The dramatic tone filter has worked very well on these old jalopies, Martin. Victoria also has a massive classic and veteran car following, although Lyn (Floribunda} will always tell us that everything South Australian is better than the rest of Oz!
