  • SES to the rescue!

When things go bump in the night that sounds like a tree falling & especially after the rain fall for the day was 122.8mm (about 5") that was a result from the Ex-Tropical Cyclone Oswald, the torches & lights go on looking for the fallen tree, but when you see torchlight coming from your neighbours roof (through the hole), a scratch of the head is not abnormal.

Here is the turn of events as seen in daylight today (of my neighbours roof).

They collected the incoming water with buckets through the night & have been surviving on coffee. They must be getting tired by now.

And the helpful 'angels' of our state, the State Emergency Services that came to the rescue.

A nice clean way of taking care of a damaged roof until it can be repaired properly.

Now, for the dead trees that need to come down near our house.

WOW Ross ! I bet you and the family were glad it wasn't your roof that a tree fell on.

Certainly it brought the reality of tropical cyclone Oswald right to your next door.

You may now go buy a lottery ticket !

No, I think I'll just go buy another lens instead.

Your poor neighbours Ross - and our SES boys do a wonderful job.
It is lovely to have trees around the home - but not too close.

I can recommend this guy when you are ready to take your trees down!

Post your photos for friendly, non-critical feedback. This is the place to show pictures if you aren't yet ready for full-blooded critique, or simply want to share an interesting picture with other e-group visitors.

Well that's a thought too, but a ticket instead might buy you a whole bunch of lenses !

But anyways, don't listen to her Ross, I mean that Crow Eater ... her SES boys give her a kickback for recommending them ... now my fellas prices are really down to earth if you will !

            Re: SES to the rescue!

Thanks for the offers Lyn & Mark, but no thanks. They'ed want to charge me an arm & a leg for accommodation & travel exoenses, besides I already have a regular guy (so long as he is still doing it). Here is his last lot of work he did for us.

The next lot of dead trees to be removed are much closer to the house & while it will make the house safer, the perching of the visiting birds will be further away. I guess that 'them's the breaks'! The green leaves on the left in the foreground of the first photo is now one of the dead trees to go.

I gave our neighbours a print & copy of the photos I took today (hoping they didn't mind me taking photos in the first place) & they were grateful. The weather is easier to cope with now, but I do really feel for the residents of Bundaberg & all the other flood areas up north right now. We didn't have any wind here, just the large amount of rain (about 136mm all up yesterday & over night) & dead trees that have been so for a while, eventually just fall over in these conditions. That's what happened next door.

Glad we don't have your fire problems with all that timber about, but we suffer
from the wind over here, so still have chappies with the same skills.

It is so pleasant to see that our Antipodean friends think so much of each other

The only trouble with visiting Britain is it gives me a headache

The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

Ouch a fair bit of damage there Ross, looks like your SES guys did a good job with the repair though.

On the first above 40 degree day I was sick with the stress of it, especially as they played it up in the media & the 46 degree day was scary with the thought of a fire starting, because there's basically no stopping it in those conditions. It's starting to blur into the past already, particularly as we woke up to some showers again this morning. The sound of the showers may have left the neighbours feeling a little unsettled perhaps. I wonder if they went to check to see if any water was coming through again.

There are only certain times of the year there are concerns, the rest of the time it is a great life & enviroment. A bit like child birth, you forget the pain of the birth once the baby is in your life (but then the pain can sometimes return as they grow up ).

It is comforting to know we have the emergency services when we need them.

Good one mate! I'm sure your headache will pass.

That was relatively small for damage really. At least there was no structural damage to the house & it was the garage & laundery part of their house & the insurance will take care of the costs.

                    Thanks for all the comments.

You certainly have extremes over there, Ross. Hope your weather soon settles down for a while.

                        Re: SES to the rescue!

It's getting better with it warming up to 31 tomorrow & 28 the next day & then down to the mid 20's for a while. There's still likely to be a hot day ot two during the next month, but hopefully nothing like we had a couple of weeks ago. I think it was, 'cause I'm losing track of time, so I better concentrate on working, then I'll know what day it is. School's back & the work is starting to come back in again (& if I work enough, I can buy more lenses & things ).
