"Making Babies" Frogs, Beetles & Spiders!

[Ross the fiddler]

We've had these frogs in our little pond & today it was time time for them to 'make babies'.




And then there are the Soldier Beetles.


He's keen, up hill & down dale for 'his love'.


It looks like he's all tuckered out now!


But I also saw this spider with her bundle (egg sack or food?).


And a closer crop because I'm still enjoying my 60mm macro lens.


And this Daddy Long Legs with her bundle of eggs.

Yes, great shots.

But up here in the northern hemisphere, anything with any mating instinct has put those thoughts well at the back of their mind and hunkered down for a long, wet, cold winter.

Thanks Stephen. Unfortunately for those in the west of Sydney, next Saturday is forecast to be 41 degrees (38 where we are), so which would you rather, freeze to death or fry. Melbourne is only going to get to 36 on Thursday. Sometimes they can cop the hot weather.

Must admit that my initial thought, too, was "What, at this time of year?" We should remember that in global terms life springs eternal.

Great shots, which cheered me up no end after another day of incessent rain and dreary gloom. We're in no danger of freezing to death but we might just drown.

Thanks John. I should have looked up details on the flooding (which was on our news) to see if my relatives are affected. Do you have a map system with traffic & flooding details that show up on it? We do with our Live Traffic NSW web page & it's very helpful for avoiding or knowing of situations that arise.

Loved the little Striped Marsh Frogs Ross.
Not sure what mine are in our ponds, but I do find little brown tree frogs in my hanging baskets from time to time.
