  • From the top of the Southern Hemisphere

    ... well, sort of!

Melbourne is a beautiful, vibrant, modern city with new skyscrapers built around original Victorian architecture. This is best seen from the top of the Eureka building The Skydeck88 is the Southern hemisphere's highest public vantage point at 300 metres, accessed by the fastest lifts in that hemisphere.

    This is the Eureka building:

and these are views from the top, all taken with the 75mm lens bought a few hours earlier and by now glued on the camera:

    St Paul's cathedral

    Flinders Street station

    and ongoing skyscraper building

Re: From the top of the Southern Hemisphere

It gives me vertigo just looking at the photos!

I haven't been to the top of what used be called Centre Point Tower (called something else now) in Sydney yet or the Bridge climb (organised Sydney Harbour Bridge climbs) & I don't intend to either. My daughter rings me from New Zealand to tell me she went hang gliding, up to 1500 metres (or maybe it was just feet).

    Great photos Stephen.

I haven't been up the Eureka Building either Stephen - probably the same old story that the visitors visit more than the locals do!
It looks really high, and your photos are great!
Enjoy that new lens, I am a tad envious.

I had never heard of the Eureka Building until reading your post but it looks like a fantastic piece of modern architecture. Thanks for posting.

Apparently the markings down the side (not easily visible in this photo) are meant to represent the lines on a surveyor's measuring staff!

When I first saw your title and looked at the pictures and could not help but think there is something wrong with them, just worked it out they are all upside down but lovely shots.

                I don't know what you're talking about.

Re: From the top of the Southern Hemisphere

Crazy views form the top, especially considering they were taken with a 75mm telephoto! Reminds me of the view I experienced from the CN Tower in Toronto many years ago.
