    Re: E5 mixture

Love number 4. In LR in the development mode, use the noise control on RHS of window. Which version of LR are you using?

Thanks Dave using LR3.6 at the moment.

Ed. I just slide the luminance slider, under noise reduction, to the right to correct noise. It does the job. Probably others who could give more info on here.

          Re: E5 mixture

I'm with Ulfric, I like the one of the Egret splashing best. The adjusted BIF one looks very strange on my monitor, it has strange purple bits.

Thanks Dave and John will try again. Is this a good to to confess to being red/green colour blind? i.e. what's purple?

I did this in LR 3. Noise reduction 41, detail 50.

Great, many thanks Dave. looks good I will play with it on the original and see what I can do.

                  Re: E5 mixture

I think a better colour balance can be achieved - even from the jpg I got this

which is still a little too green perhaps in the background. But lacks the colour artifacts which affected Wee Mans revision.

I would expect the raw file can be got even closer.

(this was done by waggling the sliders in The GIMPS GEGL White Balance operation - have no idea what GEGL means or how the sliders should really be used)

                    Re: E5 mixture

Thanks Nick that looks much better than mine. I know I have a long way to go getting shots and an even longer way sorting software fixes but you giuys have shown me which way to go. I will go back to the RAW file and work on it. Thanks again all.

                      Re: E5 mixture

Certainly looks a lot better to me, something like neat image should sort out the noise.

                        Nick that looks so GREEN!
I know we all see colours differently but ... that's a lot of it.
WeeMan's had some orangey bits, are they the 'colour artefacts' you mention?

Well the orangey bits (on the bird) seem more purple to me - Wee Mans conversion also seemed to overblow an area at the base of the wing.

I think I've got the bird closer to right (egrets are startlingly white, I've seen lots and they always stand out as pure white whatever the light). But the background is too green - I did try to get the backgound right - but I don't think the jpeg contains the necessary info, that's why I think working on the raw file conversion will give a better result.

But there is always a subjective element - and of course I may well be wrong.

                          (note, I recalibrated before replying)

I agree. It was great timing to capture those splashes.

EIF 1 and 2 are excellent, Ed. Especially 2. Background does look a bit grainy, though.
