A few wayside close ups with a Lensbaby

Trying out my Lensbaby Scout on the E-M5 as it is an ideal camera for this stop down lens with it's EVF. The Scout is interesting to use for close up work as it inherently has a good DOF plus it's close focus minimum of 1cm. These are a few from our lane this afternoon.

Cracking set of shots David, the lensbaby looks to be a really handy tool

Great detail throughout but the clover shot is just excellent

I googled Lensbaby Scout while looking at Davids superb images and theres a video to look at...not looked yet though.

That camera / lens combo certainly renders impressive detail, Brian. Nos. 6., 7., leaves no doubt.

As the E-PL3 has somewhat dampened my enthusiasm for big heavy cameras I have been considering an XZ-1 for my next and final and forever til I die camera ... but then I said that before I bought the E-520.

Downunder, Spring is in the air, the Gold and Green of our resplendent wattle has begun to bloom, but too late it seems to have inspired our largely luckless Olympians !

Sorry, my clumsy English. This lens does not have an adjustable iris only a range of aperture rings from f5.6 to f22 that have to be manually positioned. Easy to do but it means that viewing is through a small aperture, in this case f11, which makes it difficult to focus with an optical viewfinder but OK with an EVF.

I believe the Lensbaby Composer (M4/3's version) is not so good on the E-M5 because of the overhang (of the central 'hump') at the top, as it obstructs the Composer a little.

I've only used the Scout and bought it specifically for close up work. Itr has the "Fisheye" optic which is only 12mm so is not very "Fishy eyed" on FT but it does have excellent DOF and close focussing. The other Lensbaby products are a bit too quirky/artistic for me but will suit some styles of photography.

It works well with the E-M5 as it has only manual focus and stop-down metering - both of which are ably assisted by the EVF. I find it very easy to use, the only difficulty is in getting enough light to the subject owing to the closeness of the front element in close up photography - it is so close that ringflash will not work. However the Pen Macro arm light works well.
