  • A Couple of Dragons; IDs Please

A couple of dragonflies from a stroll round Potteric Carr YWT nature reserve near Doncaster.

I think the first is a Common Hawker, but I'm not really sure about the other two, so any assistance would be appreciated.
All taken with Lumix 1-300mm @300mm on E-M5

I know this isn't a dragon, I'd sussed that much; Reed Warbler maybe?

    Thanks for looking.

Excellent dragons Bill. The first is an 'almost full adult' male Southern Hawker. The other two are the same species as each other, i'll dig out a good book as they are still very young, but my first guess would be female Southern Hawkers, but possibly female Common Hawkers.

        Hi,

#1 definitely Southern Hawker (deep V above smaller V on segments 1 & 2), #s 2 & 3 female Common Darter. Possibly a Willow warbler but under this lighting difficult to be sure without seeing the colour of the legs - pale = Willow warbler, dark = Chiffchaff.

Super dragonfly shots by the way.

Many thanks for the help folks. The warbler was directly overhead which made seeing the legs a bit tricky. It certainly didn't sound like a Chiffchaff; I'm sure we would both have recognised that.
I'll dig out my bird sounds and see if Jane can remember it.

Well spotted David, in the light of day that was a silly mistake on my part.
