  • A White Moth

Yep - the title was to suck the Macro guys in!

I confess to being petrified of photographing white flowers, but I purchased this potted one to cheer me up and couldn't resist having a go at photographing it.

Sorry Ed - too busy being smart with the title!
It is commonly called a "Moth Orchid". Phalaenopsis.
        Approx 6cms across.

That's a bit cheeky Lyn, but it was worth the look.

Nevertheless an excellent image. You got the lighting and exposure just right. It always amazes me how these flower for so long and come back, time and time again.

                    Thanks David & Bob,
I wish I knew the secret of keeping these going, and yes, they flower for ages, but they usually go to the big garden in the sky for me!
I read that when they finish flowering you cut the stem off below the last flower and they will send up another flowering stem. This has never happened for me! Just seemed to hasten their demise.

Patience, patience, patience! It sometimes takes a year or so before a new flowering stem emerges. Doesn't like a sunny window, so put it on a North....oops, South for you facing window and don't give it much water.

I want a moth shot though, false advertising.........

Thanks Bob, as the last one rotted it doesn't take much to work out where I went wrong! Will try and do better with this one, although as winter is approaching it is in a room with a wood fire burning, so it may not like that either!

He he Danny, I was actually thinking of you and your Macro shots when I came up with the title!
