How on Earth did you hand hold that lens and converter for this shot?
I'm impressed.

Thanks John....
So you know all about it then.
When I hired it I thought it would be on the scale of the 70-300.
It IS heavy but strangely it feels a lot more balanced than the Sigma 135-400.
I have tried it with some Gulls whizzing about overhead and managed at least as many as with the siggy.
I am hoping for some better weather over the next 3 days so I can get some use out of it.
I took 2 of this and the other had no focal point so I must have moved a bit.

I've never used one myself but I've been with Andy Elliot when he's been using his and seen what it's like.
Have fun while you've got it!

Lovely shot of forget-me-nots, Keith. Re the weight of that gear have you considered going m43 ... I tell you what mate, once you've tried it you'll never turn back.
I have an E-3 and an E-520 that I've no further use for. Superb new lenses are continually being added to the line up. Liberating !

Unfortunately a 300/2.8 (or 420/4) would be as big and heavy in m43 as in big43 - ye canna change the laws o' physics, captain!
Thanks Mark....yes I have been looking at micro.
Will wait and see if they can get a really long lens that can produce quality images ...even with me at the controls....lol

Well the 300mm is a top class bit of kit and something I feel I can always rely on. Despite the amount of glass in it I think (not a scientific assessment) that it settles in AF quicker and more reliably than the 50-200mm + EC14. Most of my best butterfly shots have been made with this lens. I do find, however that the mZuiko 75-300mm has exceptional IQ only appearing to lose out on CA. There is hope!
