  • Build a Bridge and Get Over It !

This afternoon we took a walk along the river to inspect the progress of a new footbridge being built across the Ovens. Being Easter
we were able to ignore the AUTHORISED PERSONEL ONLY sign and I was able to shoot some definitive images. This is the northern end of the bridge.
    1.
Lets inspect the site, if anyone asks what you're doing in a prohibited area,
tell 'em you're assisting me - "... and he's from News of the World" ! Now come along ...
    2.
There are some 30 kilometres of walking and cycling paths that follow the rivers and creeks which interlace the city.
    3.
Wangaratta is a very nice rural city, extremely low crime rate, close knit community -
a lovely place to live from Autumn through Spring but uncomfortably hot through summer.
    4.
This is the southern end of the bridge where the pathway winds its way beneath River Red Gums,
home to scores of bird species and native animals along the river, not to mention the old Joe Blake.

Well, looks like this thread hasn't struck a chord, so, I'll just have to Build a Bridge and Get over it ...

These are all good images with lovely light and tones, I particularly like the 3rd image, but my favourite is the latest post, which is an extremely clever take on parallel's, and with a great reflection thrown in to the bargain.

      Thank you for sharing.

The colours are superb- I'd forgotten what warm summer colours look like... I prefer the fourth photo, although it doesn't look quite level. But I agree with the comment above - the latest post is the one that does it for me. Very striking - great composition and nice DOF.

Thanks for dropping in, I thought this post was destined to remain unfertilised ... "Full many a flower is born to blush unseen and waste its sweetness on the desert air..." !

Thanks Iain. I suppose that I feel really excited about the construction of this bridge because it links two of our favourite river walks and provides a short cut to the city. Photographically, it shows the bridge at a stage which once completed will be no longer possible to shoot, hence it will have an historical value.

I am delighted with the colors rendered by the PEN which when processed can result in those you see.

Your eyes do not deceive, in the fourth the bridge isn't quite level because the northern bank is higher.

Mark, fantastic colours and I like the bridge design (so far) hoping that you will post some of the finished bridge ?

My fav is the last - the lines are so beautiful they are almost wasted underneath

You say it is a new bridge joining two of your fav walks - how do you cross the river now ? or are they separate walks ?

                    I'll second that!

Mark, sorry I nearly missed this one, it's a great thread and that's a fantastic bridge.

Yes I nearly missed it too. Superb colours and clarity especially no 4 and as everyone else has said that last composition is ace.

Hi Chevvy, I will most definitely post one/some of the finished bridge and I expect that to be soon.
Funny that you and others have expressed a preference for the last shot, #6 as I eliminated it from the opening thread thinking it rather boring - one man's food, another man's poison !
To answer your Q, the only existing footbridge on the river is in the city, about 1.5km up stream. The new bridge will create a 3km loop with options.

Hi John, and Phill - it wasn't just you that "nearly missed" this thread ... it had 80 hits and no replies. I began wondering if the pics were that bad ! Having put some effort its creation I decided to post image #6 that seems to be surprisingly well received.

Thank you Cathrine, and I would agree that No. 4 is the pick of the set.

As you've seen from Men at Work, the bridge is progressing.
